Who We Are
Purpose
Radiate Youth Ministries exists to introduce M.S. & H.S. students to the life changing person of Jesus and help them become more like Him as they journey through life. Middle School Radiate (Grades 6-8) meets every Wednesday night from 6:30-8:00 and High School Radiate (Grades 9-12) meets every Sunday night from 6:30-8:15. We meet in the youth room, which is located in the basement of Steamboat Rock Baptist Church.
We believe that the journey for any of our students is all about relationships and we want to help our students know and understand what God's desire for their relationships looks like. Hear are some of the relationships we look at on a weekly basis:
- Your relationship with God
- Your relationship with others - friends, family, ememies, etc.
- Your relationship with the world
What's up with the name Radiate?
The word "Radiate" means to "shine from a central point." Whether you know it or not, we live in a dark world that wants to pull you in a thousand different directions and most of those directions are not pulling you to the life of Christ. We want to be about something totally different in this world: we want to be a source of light. We believe that as we learn from the Bible and seek to apply it to our lives, we will gain ever increasing light and our friends and family will be attracted to that light. They will see something different in us. It's not our goal to keep this light to ourselves; we want it to shine on others so that they become curious as to the lives we're living. One thing you can always count on in this crazy world: light beats darkness every time!
What Do We Do at Radiate?
Hmmm...let me see...some of our favorite things to do here at Radiate are to sing "Kum-By-Ya," meditate on the world's problems and have contests to see how fast we can look up Bible verses. Naahhh...not really.
Here's what a H.S. student said last year after visiting youth group for the first time:
"I didn't know you guys did stuff like this...this was pretty fun tonight. I just thought it would be a few people sitting around a circle singing, "Kum-By-Ya."
Now, we have no problems with the song “Kum-By-Ya” but we feel there is so much more to offer our students that will meet them where they’re at in life. On a typical night at Radiate… you will no doubt play some fun games that will make you laugh, cry and maybe even wet your pants…you will no doubt get to enjoy some great food… you will no doubt get to hang out with some cool people your age from AGWSR, South Hardin, and Grundy Center…but believe it or not, you can get most of that stuff at school or other after school activities. You might be wondering, “What sets Radiate apart from everything else I’m a part of?” Great Question!
Every other week you get the opportunity to engage in meaningful worship as our M.S. & H.S. Vertical Worship Teams lead you in worship. You will get to interact with our adult leaders who are interested in every area of your life and want to get to know you better. And what we’re really excited to bring to you is a down to earth teaching from the Bible every week that you will be able to use as you live your life as a M.S. or H.S. student in this world. It’s our goal to teach things that will bring answers to the things you’re dealing with now but also to challenge you on things you might not be thinking about at all. Our Facilities:
Okay, so we know that ministry is not about programs or facilities… but regardless, we’re pretty pumped about the rooms God has provided for us to meet in. About 10 years ago, the church saw enough benefit in the need for some great meeting rooms for the youth to use. Many people invested a lot of time, money, and energy to provide these great rooms for us. To everyone who invested: the youth leaders and students say Thank You!
